Sicignano degli Alburni

Sicignano is a town situated to the north-east of the Alburni chain, on a small rocky hill: its territory is almost entirely included in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park and includes five small hamlets: Terranova, Scorzo, Zuppino, Galdo and Castelluccio.
The town boasts Roman origins and that is testified by a tributary inscription dating back to 323 BC, bearing the words "Praedium sicinianus", probably referring to the Sicinus family. The antiquity of the center is also witnessed by the excavations that brought to light a necropolis, with Roman republican coins in silver. In the Middle Ages the city experienced a period of great splendor and was fortified with a castle, which appears to have been built by the Normans in about 1250. In the XVIII century the dominant family, in the management of the feud, is that of the Falletti. Destroyed by the French, the castle was rebuilt by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon.
This town is particularly suggestive for its picturesque landscapes, characterized by pinewoods and centuries-old chestnut trees: in this context, Monte Panormo represents a must-see destination for mountain lovers. Already in the XVI sec. the poet Girolamo Brittonio praised its beauty, the same applies to the great Virgil who praised the beauty of the pastures in his Georgics. Sicignano has an urban fabric rich in paths that intertwine and wind between cobbled streets decorated with arches and covered passages. Therefore the beauty of the places, the healthiness of the air and the genuineness of some typical products such as vegetables, dairy products, chestnuts and oil, make this place the ideal destination for those wishing to spend a few days of rest and vacation to greet.
