Salerno, Campania
The Municipality of Pollica falls within the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano and is located at the foot of Monte della Stella, one of the places where the most ancient settlements of Cilento were founded.
It extends over a variegated territory, rich in rare and evocative landscapes, of unusual and sometimes explosive beauty. The coastal strip, bathed by wonderful and transparent waters, was awarded with the Blue Flag award (an European award that is given to pure and uncontamined sea towns), both for the low beaches of fine sand in Acciaroli and for the rocky coves of Pioppi.
Pollica, clinging to a steep mountain range, overlooking the gulfs of Elea and Palinuro, is the theatre of several ancient myths.
The sea lily (Pancratium marittimum) with its white blooms of July and August has become the symbol of the town.
Pollica is also one of the places of the renowned Mediterranean Diet, brought to the forefront of the scientific world by the famous scholar Ancel Keys, who has conducted several studies about the dietary habits of the Cilento population in Pioppi.
